University of Alabama in Huntsville is a public university under the aegis of University of Alabama System. The university is well known for its strength in science and engineering programs and is one of the few universities with a space grant. The university was set up in 1950 and has a long history of co-operation with NASA for research on space science. Pioneering work in superconductor research was done here. The university is home to the National Space Science and Technology Center. There are more than 7000 students on campus and the quality of undergraduate students is high. It is a co-educational institution which is supported by the state and all the programs on its campus are accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

The university confers bachelors, masters and doctoral degrees. Apart from this there are pre-professional courses in 7 disciplines like pharmacy and law. It also has a honors program and a continuing education program for students who are well suited for these type of courses.
Admission Procedures:
Applicants seeking to enter the university for an undergraduate degree must show an acceptable ACT/SAT score and have a good academic record. The application forms can be downloaded from the Internet and a filled application form along with transcripts and processing fee need to be submitted to the admissions office. For graduate students, there is an options to fill up the application details on line. For all programs except Administrative Science, a minimum CGPA of 3 and a 1500 in GRE (pre 2002 format) is required. For applicants just missing one of this criteria , conditional admission may be given.

The university has four halls of residence. They are

2.North Campus Residence Hall
3.SouthEast campus hall.
4.Frank Franz residence hall
The Central Campus Residence hall is for freshman students only. Applications for the courses can be done online and rates vary from hall to hall. Studio , 4 person apartments are available. There is a vibrant greek life on campus.
